Music. Gaming. Nostalgia. Culture.

Davey Muise reflects on final Vanna show: “This wasn’t the end of anything, it was the beginning of it all.”

Do you believe in the power of music to change lives, emotionally move, tell stories, and create lasting memories that will stick with you forever? I do – I see it every day in the hearts of metal and hardcore kids who are searching for any sense of meaning in their lives, who are looking for that one album or band to truly latch onto.

I feel that, in the span of their just over 10 year run as the pride of Boston, that Vanna did that quite successfully. Did you see the hundreds of kids piling up at Warped a few years ago just to sing (scream) with vocalist David Muise? I did – and it gave me the chills knowing that moment may have changed the course of their lives, much like discovering Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory did for me so long ago at the age of 10.

Knowing that Vanna just played their last show is sad, sure – but they did it in front of their friends, family, and a legion of fans that will surely remember the night forever. Perhaps it’s this emphatic post from David Muise that really sums up what the band wanted to accomplish.

I’m sitting in a laundry mat thousands of miles and over a week away from that stage inside the Palladium and I’ve spent all this timing trying to find words to say about the night that defined a decade of my life. I search every inch of my memory to make sure I don’t forgot a single thing because. Because it was a beautifully crafted dream of a send off for me and my Vanna boys. From the all the members joining our current men on stage and watching your reactions to looking at my family watch me be king for a night as if that’s how it’s always been. From VIP being the size of a normal show to your thank you chants echoing in my head forever. As well as having the honor of watching all my favorite friends bands rip Massachusetts apart all night. As I sit here and try and recall the last decade of my existence all I can do is smile at the future and I hope to hell its ready for me and what I have planned. This wasn’t the end of anything, this was the beginning of it all. If Vanna touched your life in anyway, know this, whatever you think we did, you did 100 times more for us. We didn’t save you, you saved you-we just gave you the soundtrack. So one more time, we’ve been a band called Vanna. Thank you, goodnight ?
