Four months into 2016, and it’s already been a good year for fans of technical/death/black metal. Moonsorrow, The Zenith Passage, and newcomers (though certainly not in experience!) Entheos have all released solid albums so far, and there’s definitely more coming – I’m personally stoked for possible new material from Black Crown Initiate.
Speaking of the latter band, there’s a band I came across on Bandcamp by the name of Vantablack. who hail from Wareham, MA. Their recently released EP, The Nihilist, is a solid 5 track/14 minute burst of technical and progressive death metal wizardry. Unfortunately, it’s all over too quickly – but for a previously unknown (to me, at least) band, this is some really good work. Though never overindulgent, if the band can give their songs a little room to breathe on their next release, they’ll be good to go.
