Florida is a great place to live if you’re looking for talent in the music scene. I’m pretty thankful to live in a place that, while entirely too hot, routinely puts out some of the best musical talent the USA has to offer.

You might know Silence, and if not, their 2012 album Dead Presidents is a great place to start. But Hunter Young (vocals/guitar) has a new project, called Culture Killer. Though he mainly contributes guitar to the project, he does provide some vocals as well. When I talked to him about it, he was cool enough to tell me a little more about the project, as well as send me over the EP way before the release date. To give you an idea, it’s a lot different than what a lot of heavier-styled bands are playing today. It’s more of a venomous mix of hardcore, metal, and even a little grind. The track “White Plague”, clocking in at just 3 minutes, gives a good idea of what to expect from the EP. Fast, pissed-off music that shuttles between the aforementioned genres without sounding forced. There’s even a few sludgy and doom-influenced parts in “The Overbearing”, which I really enjoy.

The EP is ridiculously good. If you’re into Code Orange Kids, Full Of Hell, Gaza (now Cult Leader) or Loma Prieta, you really should check out both Culture Killer and their new EP. For a previously unknown quantity, it captured my interest almost immediately. Everything Hunter Young touches seems to turn to gold.

Daytona Beach, you’ve got a new breeding ground for talent. Don’t sleep on Culture Killer.
