Badflower returns to Detroit for a good time

Getting to photograph badflower in Detroit weeks after they released their new single “Detroit” penned by frontman Josh Katz, feels somewhat ironic. The band has been steadily maintaining their spot in the alternative rock space in the past 5 years.

First up tonight was Missio, an Electronic/Alternative duo hailing from Austin, Texas. This full band set by them really surprised me in the best ways. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure what to expect from them before the show, as I hadn’t heard of them. I left a fan of their music, with their performance being undeniable. Frontman Matthew Brue was radiating energy.

Next was Slothrust. My girlfriend mentioned that she was a fan of their music prior to the show, but I had also never heard of them. They turned out to be another great band that I was happy to be exposed to. Their blend of garage rock, mixed with the youthful angst of modern alternative music was a real breath of fresh air.

The band members looked like they were having so much fun playing the songs, ending the set with their most popular record “Crockpot” released in 2014.

Badflower appeared on stage with  smiles, led by Josh Katz looking happy to be back in Detroit. They kicked things off with “Teacher Has A Gun”, which is personally one of my favorite songs by them. This really got the crowd excited, and you could tell this song was the perfect way to start things.

The band kept the energy going with hits, but seemingly weren’t going to play their new single “Detroit” which seemed odd, for obvious reasons. But the band came back for a lengthy encore of 3 songs, playing Detroit, 30, and Girlfriend. From my view, I think it’s safe to say Badflower had a good time in Detroit.
