In this writer’s opinion, many of the bands who have broken away from the “deathcore” tag have done it fairly well and tastefully – Whitechapel and Carnifex, to name a few. It’s not a bad thing to break out of easily identifiable genre tags to attempt to break new ground (Suicide Silence aside). Alternatively, there’s also nothing wrong with many of the current crop of bands who perform well-executed albums in the genre – and you can probably throw British Columbia-based deathcore band AngelMaker in there as a band who are proud to fly the proverbial banner.
The band recently posted a FB status that’s really provoking a lot of conversation. Should deathcore bands continue to do what they do, or break out of the “pack”? Both sides of the coin are valid, but there’s something to be said for bands who stick to their guns. And speaking of AngelMaker, the band is set to embark on a full USA tour soon – check those dates below.
