An underrated Deftones song from ‘Saturday Night Wrist’ is getting more attention, thanks to their Coachella performances

Long overlooked in their extensive discography, Saturday Night Wrist is a Deftones album that warrants a re-evaluation across the board. Of course, when you have such an expansive discography, it’s easy to overlook something. Sandwiched between their self-titled album and 2010’s Diamond Eyes, the record really does contain some of the band’s most compelling moments – whether it’s the swirling dream pop of “Riviere” or the punchy + metallic “Rats!Rats!Rats!”, there’s no shortage of diversity on display.

Of course, with a discography this extensive, it’s uncommon to hear more than a few SNW songs on any Deftones setlist. In fact, with some songs it’s extraordinarily rare to hear them performed live, so when Deftones unveiled “Combat” at Coachella 2024, it made for a couple truly special moments for the fans.

Perhaps it’s not surprising, then, that the song is getting some added attention on streaming and social media. In fact, it’s received a notable uptick in overall streams (especially on Spotify), and the number of people commenting on it is also particularly interesting. In fact, it was the first time in 13 years the song garnered inclusion in their setlist.
