After 22 years, Pokémon Snap is finally getting a sequel on the Switch

While it could have been a longer and more interesting experience upon its 1999 release, Pokémon Snap was a veritable phenomenon at the end of the millennium. It certainly would have been a massive thing had social media been more prevalent at the time (seriously, imagine sharing your photos with your friends on Instagram!), but the Nintendo 64 game has remained the only game in the series. Until now.

Releasing April 30th on the Switch, there’s now an official trailer out via the official Pokemon channel. The game announcement coincides with Pokemon’s 25th anniversary this year, which is monumental considering how much of a cash cow the franchise is for Nintendo. It’s likely, considering advanced technology, that the game – titled New Pokemon Snap – will have a lot more depth to it this time around. If that’s the case, there should be many more worlds to explore – and no doubt the use of social media will provide many opportunities to show off your photography skills.
