Crowder brings his brand of “Hillbilly metal” to Pittsburg for an unforgettable evening

By Dave Parsons

Far removed from the thoughts of a typical Christian music concert, Crowder hit the stage in Pittsburgh with every gear engaged.  Backed by 10 musicians and back up singers, Crowder had the crowd engaged and engrossed in the songs beginning with “Milk And Honey”.

Moving between guitar, banjo, piano and two different microphones, lending two different qualities to his voice, Crowder took the crowd at PPG Paints arena to church on a Thursday night.

Infusing his mix of what he describes as “Hillbilly Metal” music, with the lyrics to the songs on the screen behind him to give the praise and worship crowd a chance to sing along, Crowder showed what sets him apart as he breezed through a set of his hits including “God Really Loves Us,” “Glorious Day”, “Run Devil Run”, and a song that Pittsburgh baseball fans know very well, “Good God Almighty”.

Pittsburgh Pirate outfielder Jack Suwinski uses the Crowder set as his walk up music, meaning the crowd at PNC Park hears the song at least 4 times every home game.  Although some in the crowd were hoping Suwinski might join Crowder for the closing song, (he didn’t), the show was still a home run for the crowd that was into every note until Crowder and crew left the stage.

Crowder Setlist:

1 Milk & Honey

2 Prove It

3 Run Devil Run

4 Glorious Day

5 Red Letters

6 Come As You Are

7 God Really Loves Us

8 Life Your Head Weary Sinner (Chains)

9 All My Hope

10 Good God Almighty
