In a unexpected move, Epic Games, the makers of Fortnite, have acquired the music platform Bandcamp in a wild turn of events last week. It seems the company is looking to break into the music industry or build a platform they can use for their games. Fans of Bandcamp are worries the respectable payouts will be changed, but according to Epic Games they are not looking to change those fundamentals that make the platform unique and still a powerhouse in the music industry. Bandcamp is a starting point for a lot of artists that some have made their way to the big time. Epic Games acquiring Bandcamp is very curious as to what their long term plans are for the platform. I think Epic’s plan here is to have a more at home source for music that could go into their games, or other media. This could open up a huge door for artists looking to break into the gaming world with their music. That’s just guessing though, until Epic Games makes it clear what they intend to do with Bandcamp. The platform may virtually stay the same, who knows for now. Read Bandcamp’s statement below!
