September’s not over yet – but this month has been full of absolutely awesome albums you’ll want to check out. Some new and emerging bands are here, along with some older favorites. Be inspired. I’ll be posting these every month from now on, so stay tuned to discover some great new releases!
Bloodwork (Texas In July)
The Lancaster, PA metalcore upstarts have shown slight improvement with each of their studio albums. 2014 could be the biggest year for them yet, though. Vocalist JT ?Cavey recently entered the fold, and there’s just something about him that absolutely fits the band. Bloodwork is an absolute statement from a band that’s been on the rise for a while. “Sweetest Poison” will be a live staple very soon.
A Far Away Wonder (With Our Arms To The Sun)
Recently heard about this band through the wonderful Monica over at Speakeasy PR, and all I can say is I wish I’d heard this band sooner. Reminds me of Isis quite a bit, with some cool synthy electronics. The sound of the Arizona desert – this band is going to be huge someday. Watch out. (and jam the album right here).
The Concrete Flower (No Bragging Rights)
I really thought their 2012 album Cycles would be their breakout, but somehow, The Concrete Flower measures up to that album in every possible way. Melodic hardcore has never sounded so good. Watch the music video for the title track right here, and catch them on tour supporting Senses Fail.
Maps Of Non-Existent Places (Thank You Scientist)
You’ll probably know the name if you’ve seen Coheed and Cambria on the Neverender tour (the band is also signed to Claudio Sanchez’s Evil Ink Records), and this band is almost beyond description. Add some of The Mars Volta, King Crimson, Mr. Bungle, and you’re somewhat closer to describing this band. Check out the track “Blood on the Radio” right here.
Gnarwolves (Gnarwolves)
More “punk” than “pop”, Gnarwolves’ debut album for Pure Noise Records is pretty stellar. They’re touring with TSSF/TWY, too, and it’s cool to see the Brighton three-piece gaining fans over in the USA. I also detect a little skate-punk in their sound, which is always a plus. Now, let’s get a Joyce Manor/Gnarwolves tour going.
The Day’s War (Lonely the Brave)
British rock music is making waves lately (the excellent Marmozets and Royal Blood albums, for example), and newcomers Lonely the Brave are continuing the proud tradition quite well. In fact, their new album The Day’s War is a shining light in a watered-down music scene. Fans of You Me At Six and Biffy Clyro will want to check this out, as it’s simply a phenomenal album with anthemic qualities, and great lyrics. This is the kind of music that deserves to be played in arenas with thousands of people. It’s that good. Check out the single “Backroads” right here.
