Post-hardcore newcomers Savage Hands provide consistent thrills on new EP, “Barely Alive”

Occasionally when you hear an unfamiliar band for the first time, you’ll notice that some of them have that “it” factor. Especially in heavier genres of music that tend to cannibalize themselves just because of the limitations they often provide, it’s very difficult to stand out amongst the pack. What post-hardcore/alternative rock newcomers Savage Hands are doing is pretty spectacular, though.

The young band from Maryland is surprisingly hard to categorize. You could probably throw them into the modern post-hardcore heap upon first listen to breakout single “Red”, but doing so would discredit their really big ability to add ridiculously catchy, almost pop-punk choruses into their music. Bands like Life On Repeat (RIP) and Too Close To Touch are quite good at that, but then you have a more driving alt-metal or even nu-metal influenced sound, which might well see Savage Hands gain an initial audience very quickly. Add that to the fact that the EP is pretty diverse with slower-burning songs like “Your Own Hell”, and you have an EP that sets a strong foundation for future success. And if you include vocalist Mike Garrow’s slick, yet diverse abilities behind the mic, you have a potential breakout EP right off the bat. In other words, the future is very bright for Savage Hands.

Barely Alive, the band’s debut EP, drops tomorrow. You can stream the band’s most recent singles below, and we recommend picking the whole thing up tomorrow. On the course of just one EP, what Savage Hands are doing will command your attention.
