Most modern singer/songwriters have a certain flair that sets them apart from others in the crowded and diverse genre of which they play in. Julien Baker, for instance – she goes straight for the throat of vulnerability. Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties? Storytelling. And No Sleep Records’ own Julia Louise? On her upcoming debut full-length Love Jail, it’s relationships and the complicated emotions that tend to go with them. Out October 13th, the album (which was recorded with Alex Estrada of Silver Snakes) explores these themes and plenty more, in the framework of being youthful.
Having just released a new track (“Splinter”, which you can find here via our pals at Substream), Julia is set for a big 2018. Standing out in a sea of singer/songwriters is a difficult task – but it is done on Love Jail with aplomb. The question is, will you be listening?
