Watch Chester Bennington and Linkin Park in peak form on 2003’s Live In Texas DVD

Amidst the number of strikingly great tributes coming out in support of the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park (Sylar’s industrial-esque cover of “Points Of Authority” straight up rules), the fact remains that for many, Linkin Park was the voice of a generation. Sure, their rap-rock sound was always rooted in pop sound structures, but that doesn’t make their impact any less eventful. This is a band who sold millions of records, arguably being one of the biggest rock bands in the world today. While it’s unknown if they will ever make more music or play another show, Chester Bennington and Linkin Park are etched in history for being the impetus behind dozens of bands getting together.

Their DVD, Live In Texas, shows Linkin Park at the peak of their powers – at least in the first era of their career. The DVD, filmed in both Dallas and Houston when the band supported Metallica on the Summer Sanitarium tour in the summer of 2003, features just about every song off Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Particular highlights include Chester and Mike Shinoda’s vocal interplay (which was always an integral part of the band) on “One Step Closer” and “Lying From You”, but the whole thing is expertly edited and sounds great. Really, though, it’s another opportunity to honor a band that inspired so many over the years.
