State Champs went on tour with supporting acts Daisy Grenade, Meet Me @ The Altar and Knuckle Puck this fall. Their stop in Seattle was no short of amazing. At the Showbox SODO in Seattle, Washington, fans were spotted getting in line as early as 4:00pm for a 7:00pm show. Everyone was excited to see some of their favorite artists perform. When doors opened at 6:00, people zoomed into the venue and while some waited in line for merch, others rushed to secure a spot at the barricade.
There were people of all ages, even some young ones around the age of 6! It’s great to see how punk shows can bring such a diverse crowd together for an epic night of live music and fun. When Daisy Grenade took the stage, the female leading band opened the night with an intoxicatingly energetic vibe. They rocked hard during their cover of Polly by Nirvana and really gave a great sound of females in pop-punk. All throughout the tour, Daisy Grenade had been picking different organizations to raise money for. Saturday night they left a sign at their merch table for fans to send funds in to support Surge Reproductive Justice.
Meet Me @ The Altar came next, an all female pop punk band. Edith Johnson, the lead singer, had an electric energy that burned as bright as her neon Green and Blue hair. The band continued to pump up the crowd and took the stage by storm! Along with performing their original music, Meet Me @ The Altar also performed some well known 2000’s punk throwbacks such as “Sweetness” by Jimmy Eat World and “My Friends Over You” by New Found Glory.
The crowd erupted into screams when Knuckle Puck came on stage next. The band held a little bit of a heavier edge to the two opening acts before. Knuckle Puck definitely kept the energy alive! The crowd switched energies a little and the moshing began. Knuckle Puck highly encouraged crowd surfing, and the fans listened. There were crowd surfers everywhere of all ages. Fans were screaming along to every song, especially when the band pulled two of their older songs out, “Untitled” and “No Good” both amazing classics.
As the lights went down about twenty minutes after Knuckle Puck’s departure from the stage, the crowd went wild! When State Champs took the stage, the room burst alive with excitement and screams. The band just released their new self-titled album State Champs by State Champs, opening the show with “Silver Cloud”. To throwback to 2015, they sang some songs off of their albums, Around the World and Back, The Finer Things and Living Proof. They brought Daisy Grenade back out to join them for “Around the World and Back”. Closing out the show, the crowd screamed along to “Save Face Story” off of the new album. The crowd chanted for an encore and State Champs listened. Coming back, the crowd erupt into more loud screams as the band performed a two-song encore to officially end the fantastic evening.
