Chicago’s Beat Kitchen was transformed into a rock ‘n’ roll playground on Friday night as GayC/DC brought their electrifying and unapologetically queer energy to the stage. From the moment they hit the stage, it was clear that this wasn’t just a show—it was an event where anything goes. With at least four fabulous outfit changes and a flurry of inappropriate (yet hilarious) props, GayC/DC delivered a fun-loving time.
The band’s playful energy set the tone right away. The guitarist, sporting a long mohawk and a tiny backless leather skirt, absolutely shredded throughout the night, ripping through AC/DC riffs with ease while looking nothing short of iconic. I wish the entire band had his energy (hell, I’d like that energy too). Their talent paired with over-the-top looks made every solo an experience, but the best part? The band never took themselves too seriously, giving the crowd the opportunity to truly let loose. After all, there was plenty of ass hanging out, and the crowd was loving every second of it.
One of the most memorable moments came when a random crowd member was handed the bass to play. The spontaneity of the moment made it feel like we were all just hanging out with the band. Even better, the bassist casually quipped, “It’s just an open A!” as if to say, “Anyone can do this!”. It was those casual, community-driven moments that really made the show feel intimate, even though the energy was electric.
Adding to the chaos, there was a bachelorette party in the audience, and their sashes hilariously mimicked the classic AC/DC font, a perfect nod to the band’s vibe. Whether it was dancing with strangers or laughing at the ridiculous props, everyone was in on the fun.
By the end of the night, GayC/DC had conquered Chicago. Outfits changed, boundaries were pushed, and rock ‘n’ roll was as queer as it’s ever been—and frankly, it was glorious.
