American singer-songwriter Teddy Swims is pretty much becoming a household name, and if you don’t know his name, I’m sure you know a few of songs as he is constantly releasing hit after hit. This was Teddy’s second and final sold out show here in Melbourne at Margaret Court Arena. His ‘I’ve Done Everything But Therapy Tour’ has sold out all arena shows across Australia with second shows being added due to the demand and we were about to witness why this was the case!
Australia’s own Meg Mac kicked off the night with her energetic pop sound, firing up the crowd for the evening ahead. With hits like “Roll Up Your Sleeves” and “Something Tells Me,” she was already a familiar favourite among the Aussie audience, leading to loud singalongs that energised the venue.
It was a half hour wait time, everyone on the floor of the arena was tightly packed in as some chatted to each other, while others vibed out to the intermission music.
As the start time approached, anticipation built as the crowd began to eye the stage. The intro music played over the loudspeakers, signalling the entrance of Freaky Feely, the band that set the tone with a live intro. Suddenly, a figure donning purple glasses and double denim emerged from the side stage. Teddy Swims waved to the audience and kicked off the night with “Goodbyes Been Good To You.” From the first moment, he commanded the stage with his animated expressions, powerhouse voice, and playful demeanour. Teddy is a natural performer, seamlessly translating his online persona to his live show, chatting with the crowd during song intermissions and showcasing his down-to-earth, humble nature.
During the show, busker Inoxia joined Teddy on stage. She had gone viral overnight after Teddy joined her for a street performance duet in Queensland. This time, they sang his iconic rendition of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still The One” in front of thousands of concertgoers. Intermissions were spent with Teddy telling us how much he loves this country and a quick reminder for everyone to look after each other tonight. After someone threw jewellery on stage, Teddy playfully mentioned that if people are throwing things up on stage, he appreciated items of jewellery the most. When a few fans in the front called for him to do a shoey, he humorously replied that emotional songs were coming up and it wouldn’t transition well, but promised to do one later. True to his word, he performed a shoey with a fan’s shoe after a couple of songs.
With an energetic band behind him, Teddy delivered a perfect mix of older hits and new releases, notably “Tell Me” and “Lose Control.” The night ended on a high note with “The Door,” as confetti filled the air and Teddy showcased once again, his incredible vocal range with his latest hit.
Teddy Swims proved why he’s selling out arena shows back to back, cementing his status as one of the best vocalists at the moment. His powerhouse voice and captivating performance made for an unforgettable show. If you get the chance, don’t miss seeing him live. With new music constantly being released and ongoing tours, it’s only a matter of time before he’s back with even more hits, performing for even larger crowds.
