In the midst of their Starcatcher tour, Michigan quartet Greta Van Fleet hit the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee on Tuesday for a killer set that offered some surprises, a monster drum solo from Danny Wagner, and a whole lot of rock-star energy.
Opening with “The Falling Sky” from Starcatcher and playing almost the entire new album over the course of a ninety minute set, vocalist Josh Kiszka preened and strutted like the best of them, and guitarist Jake Kiszka delivered a one-man army of bluesy riffs and monster solos.
A piano-driven cover of the classic “Unchained Melody” had the arena singing along, and new songs like Starcatcher single “Meeting the Master” and the stomping “Highway Tune” captured the same raw energy of their studio versions and then some, and the soaring melody of “Farewell for Now” offered a perfect ending to a night that proved classic rock n’ roll is alive and well as long as bands as talented as Greta Van Fleet can carry the torch.
