Chicago loves our hometown boys in Alkaline Trio and we showed it with a huge sold out hometown show this past St. Patricks Day weekend.
Supporting their latest album, “Blood, Hair, & Eyeballs”, this saw the bands first headlining tour since bringing in Atom Willard into the band. Sporting tuxedos the band walked on stage to roarous cheers as they kicked from into a song from the latest album.
Sounding tighter than ever the band blasted through a 20 song set spanning most of their career with heavy emphasis on the last album and fan favorite “From Here To Infirmary”. Atom has taken his role in Trio perfectly being full of energy on the drums while Skiba and Dan Andriano were all smiles tonight with the crowd singing loudly to every word.
We even got some small banter between songs including Skiba stating he almost forget the words to “Calling All Skeletons” to make it “Calling All Leprechauns” for the holiday weekend. As one of the most beloved Chicago punk bands ever the band made it clear they are here to stay and showed fans new and old why their draw continues to be so massive.
Opening up the evening though was New York post hardcore band Drug Church who brought the energy and a change of pace to the evening. The crowd was into it with pits and sing alongs happening as frontman Patrick Kindlon powered across the stage with loads of intensity. Rumblings between concert goers after their set was the clamoring to see the band play in a smaller venue without a barricade to experience what they bring to the table in full. Indie alternative act Worriers were the ones to kick off the evening as the crowd entered in and filled the room.
