The Weekly 5×5 Playlist, 02/23/15 (Bradley)

Every Monday for the foreseeable future, I’ll be posting a 5×5 photo of the albums I’ve listened to during the week. It’ll give you an idea of some new stuff I’m jamming, some older stuff I’ll never stop listening to, and everything in between. Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover something new, too.

Of the 25 albums I’ve listened to most this past week, there’s a few that stand out.

Broods (Evergreen)

Interesting indie-pop two-piece. “Four Walls” is probably the best track on the album.

Devil Sold His Soul (Belong // Betray)

The long-time ambient post-hardcore band, which recently recruited Paul Green (The Arusha Accord) to the vocal spot, couldn’t have done any better for this 5 song EP if they tried. Opening track “Devastator” is just that. Now the better question is – what will the impending full-length sound like?

Washed Out (Paracosm)

More lo-fi synthpop. The perfect soundtrack to just about anything.

Amia Venera Landscape (The Long Procession)

Post-everything from Italy. It’s been over 4 years since any new material from them, but they’ve been working hard in the studio. This album, though – it’s pretty great. Imagine if you threw together Isis, Radiohead, Underoath, Converge, and Alexisonfire, and you’d have close to what this sounds like. It’s intense to be sure.

You Me At Six (Take Off Your Colours)

I remember hearing this album way back in 2008 when my love of pop-punk pretty much consisted of The Get Up Kids. I haven’t been the same since and I do wish they’d go back to this sound. With that said, it’s a pop-punk album that’s always caught me in a certain time and place – that’s a rare thing. “Jealous Minds Think Alike” and the title track are incredibly infectious tracks.

The other albums on this list are pretty great, too. Jam Unwound if you’re into adventurous post-hardcore, Deftones if you’re a fan of anything ever, and Silversun Pickups for some infectious, fuzzed-out indie rock.

Also, did I mention how stoked I am on this new discovery? Post-everything, once again – Acres, from the UK. Jam their Solace EP before you do anything else.
