You Can’t Kill Icon For Hire

unnamed-1

Perhaps it’s not surprising that alternative rock/pop/whatever you’d call them band Icon For Hire is seeing both financial and personal success in the wake of their separation from Tooth and Nail Records. It’s easy to say that the band’s been through a lot in the last few years – seeing 2 successful and high charting album releases, sold out tours, and the questions that come from suddenly becoming an independent act. It could’ve been tremendously easy for IFH to call it a day, and even if they had, their career still would have been successful.

That wasn’t in the cards, though.

The band, who had the highest grossing Kickstarter music campaign of 2016 (over $100,000!!!), is now a fully-fledged independent touring and recording machine. After not seeing money from their recordings while on a label, they’re making a fairly comfortable living doing what they love. Clearly, the business model for bands is shifting, but it’s Icon For Hire’s dedicated fanbase that is sustaining them.

The band is gearing up for their 3rd full-length release in the coming days – aptly titled You Can’t Kill Us. It’s a testament to what the band’s overcome the last few years, as well as a statement – an epic meditation on intangibility, if you will. We recently had the chance to talk to Ariel Bloomer about the new album, the difficulties with labels, the challenges of going independent, and her other “career” as a fashion designer. Check out the full audio portion below.
