Continuing with the massive lead up to their highly anticipated new album, Germany’s post-metal-elite The Ocean Collective are unveiling the absolutely explosive visuals for their unreleased single “Cambrian II: Eternal Recurrence,” the third preview of Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic. As The Ocean are known for their mammoth melodies, ebbing from crushing climaxes to gorgeously intricate interludes, so the video matches their prehistoric, theatrical leanings. Using makeup and hand-molded masks, director Craig Murray transforms vocalist Loic Rossetti into a Cambrian-age lichen-creature, weaving molds of the band into a rocky prehistoric landscape, taking hours to meticulously shoot the video frame-by-frame. Ever since their inception in 2010, Berlin 3-piece EARTH SHIP have built their reputation in the vast field of the stoner / doom / sludge underground scene as one of the most relentless and heavy-hitting live bands out there. With their thunderous blend of sludgy riffs, bluesy leads, virulent vocals and a massive dose of both groove and humour, vocalist Jan Oberg, his wife Sabine (bass) and Sebastian Grimberg (drums) have taken EARTH SHIP to the stages of Desertfest, Stoned From The Underground or Pelagic Fest, and tours with bands like RED FANG, TORCHE, CROWBAR or VOIVOD. After 3 albums on Pelagic, the band signed with NAPALM RECORDS for the release of 4th studio album “Hollowed“ in 2016. But the alliance didn’t last long, and the band returned to our welcoming arms here at Pelagic for album #5: Resonant Sun.
Here is a quote from Earth Ship:
“It’s time for us to unleash our fifth record RESONANT SUN, the consequence of countless hours on the road & intoxicated madness. We’re pumped with the outcome – and think we’ve managed to strip it down to the raw essence of what the band has become.
Drawing inspiration from opposites – RESONANT SUN will take you on a hard-boiled trip through a vast array of emotional oddities. We can’t wait to finally show you this filthy, fuzz-laden doom monster and hope that you’ll love it as much as we do.
Go let the fuzz take you!””
German post-metal/rock band, The Ocean have just released the track “Permian: The Great Dying”, which is taken from the band’s upcoming album “Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic” which will be released via Metal Blade (CD) and Pelagic Records (LP) on November 2, 2018. “Phanerozoic” is a two-part album, with the second part releasing sometime in 2020. Listen to the song below.
Lying somewhere between atmospheric post-rock and doom metal, California’s Ancestors are a veteran band with high aspirations, and while the band released several notable albums on Tee Pee Records, their recent signing to Pelagic Records will likely see them gain a wider audience. Especially if their new song, “Gone”, is any indication.
While the band is set to release a full-length album this summer, their new song (which is on the new Pelagic Records compilation) can be streamed below. Do yourself a favor and don’t miss out on this one.
