Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has been tearing the cover off of baseballs for the entirety of 2022. He’s leading (or close to it) baseball in just about every offensive category that matters, obviously. With a triple slash line of .311/.426/.686 and 61 home runs, he’s been closing in on Roger Maris’s hallowed Yankees (and AL) record of 62 home runs for a while now. And as you can probably tell by the headline, he broke the record in grand fashion tonight in Texas.
The home run, hit off Texas Rangers pitcher Jesus Tinoco, will obviously be worth a lot of money. He’s also pretty close (though he probably won’t get it) to a Triple Crown, though with just one game left in the season and a few percentage points behind Twins hitter Luis Arreaz (who’s hitting .315), he probably won’t get there. Still, he’s got the AL record, and the arguments between him and Angels pitcher/hitting megastar Ohtani will be vigorous. Until then, appreciate greatness.
