WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Preview & News

With Clash at the Castle completed, there are just three WWE pay-per-views remaining for 2022. Next up, Extreme Rules.

This year’s Extreme Rules event will be held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Oct. 8. Crown Jewel will follow on Nov. 5 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (WWE has yet to announce the venue), and Survivor Series at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on Nov. 26.

So far, there is one confirmed match for Extreme Rules 2022: Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. However, we’re quickly getting a good idea as to which other matches could be on the card.

Wrestling is one of many sports that residents of The Coal State can bet on, and there are plenty of special PA sportsbook promo codes available to new customers upon signing up. This includes a risk-free wager of up to $1,000 from BetMGM, $200 in free bets from DraftKings when you bet $5 on the NFL or college football and a $500 risk-free bet from Unibet.

Pennsylvania became one of the first U.S. states to legalize mobile/online and in-person sports betting after the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA).

Other Potential Extreme Rules Matches

Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah held the Women’s Tag Team Championships for just two weeks before losing them to Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai on the Sept. 12 edition of WWE Raw.

All four superstars have seen a notable push under Triple H, who took over as the leader of WWE creative following Vince McMahon’s retirement. It would be somewhat surprising if Sky and Kai didn’t defend the titles at Extreme Rules, but whether or not WWE continues their program with Rodriguez and Aliyah remains to be seen.

Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair has been feuding with Sonya Deville and Bayley on WWE’s flagship program. With Roman Reigns reportedly not on the Clash at the Castle card (more on that later), it’d be wise for WWE to have both women’s World Championship defended at Extreme Rules.

Edge and Rey Mysterio are in a feud with The Judgment Day. The villainous faction recruited Rey’s son, Dominik, who turned heel at Clash at the Castle.

Edge and Dominik faced off on the Sept. 12 Raw show, with The Rated-R Superstar winning via disqualification following an attack from The Judgment Day. There are plenty of potential options here; Edge and Mysterio could compete in a tag team match against Dominik, Finn Balor and/or Damian Priest, or we could see WWE run two separate singles matches here.

WWE has also been running feuds between Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross and The Miz and Dexter Lumis. Those are two other potential single bouts for Extreme Rules.

Roman Reigns Reportedly Isn’t On The Extreme Rules Card

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer reported that Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns isn’t on the card for Extreme Rules 2022. Meltzer reported that Reigns’ next big bout will instead take place at Crown Jewel.

Under his new WWE contract, Reigns is working less events. WWE has instead decided to save him for major pay-per-views and stadium events (SummerSlam, Clash at the Castle, etc.)

But WWE could always use Extreme Rules as a way to determine Reigns’ challenger for Crown Jewel. Maybe WWE runs McIntyre vs. Kross, with the winner earning a title opportunity against Reigns.

The 37-year-old Reigns outlasted McIntyre at Clash at the Castle to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Reigns hit the two-year mark as the Universal Champion on Aug. 30, and he now hasn’t been pinned in more than 1,000 days. King Corbin was the last to pin WWE’s biggest star back at the TLC 2019 pay-per-view.

Citing a source, Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co reported earlier this month that WWE doesn’t have any plans for Reigns to lose his championship any time soon. The report stated that The Tribal Chief will carry his championship into WrestleMania 39 weekend (Apr. 1-2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California).

So regardless of who faces Reigns at Crown Jewel, it’s safe to assume that the longest-reigning Universal Champion in history will continue to be booked as a winner for the next seven or so months.
