Welcome To Rockville Festival Preview

WTRV

This year’s Welcome To Rockville festival will be once again taking place at Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville, FL on April 26th/27th. The two day festival will feature some of the biggest names in modern hard rock and heavy metal, such as Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Rob Zombie, A Day To Remember, Volbeat, Five Finger Death Punch, Staind and more. A couple of our staff members put together their “Top 5 Bands To Watch” lists, check them out and more after the jump.

Vince Bellino:

1)Hellyeah – The heavy metal supergroup still performs some of the grooviest, best-written metal in music today. The band’s lineup is nothing short of the best metal has to offer, featuring members of Mudvayne, Nothingface, and Pantera/Damageplan. The southern-style tinged group is nothing short of a whirlwind on stage and should take listeners back to the early days of groove metal.

2)Fozzy – The group fronted by WWE Superstar Chris Jericho has gone from a laughable attempt at emulating old idols to a group skilled in the art of crafting a memorable song. 2012’s Sin and Bones saw Jericho’s vocal abilities develop a unique style over driving riffs and melodic solos. Fozzy’s live performance oozes charisma, forcing the attention on the quintet on stage. Since Avenged Sevenfold is headlining the festival, one has to wonder if lead vocalist M. Shadows will share the stage with Jericho for “Sandpaper.”

3)Seether – Seether has been one of the largest presences on rock radio for years while holding onto the edge that sets them apart. Seether’s collection of hits is an impressive evolution that has seen the group perform everything from angry sing-alongs to beautiful acoustic renditions of their louder songs to classic covers and heart wrenching ballads. The group is no slouch when it comes to performing live either; from the instant classic One Cold Night live acoustic album to a spot on 2011’s Uproar Festival, Seether has spent the last fifteen years honing exceptional musicianship and a stellar live show.

4)Rob Zombie – It should come as no surprise to anyone that Rob Zombie should be one of Welcome to Rockville’s show stealers. The industrial-horror rocker has proven again and again over his nearly thirty-year career that his unique brand of music coupled with a captivating stage show will bring audiences back time and time again. A headlining slot at last year’s Mayhem Festival proved that no matter what music one is a fan of, Rob Zombie is still one of the best.

5)Evergreen Terrace – The Jacksonville locals are celebrating their fifteenth year together, fittingly playing Welcome to Rockville. The Rise Records’ band has a definite nineties sound mixed with elements of modern hardcore and post-hardcore that will make Evergreen Terrace a favorite to both locals and newcomers to the scene.

Brandon Bradley:

1)Chevelle – Chevelle are without a doubt my personal favorite band that are on this festival, and will definitely be one of the shining moments throughout the day. The reason is band are my #1 pick is because of their impeccable, flawless live performance, the energy and intimacy the band brings has unfortunately become a rare thing with most bands, you definitely won’t want to miss their set.

2)Volbeat – Volbeat have been steadily rising in popularity over the last couple of years, and that popularity is not unfounded, though, because Volbeat make music that is as catchy and fun as it is interesting and ensnaring. Volbeat will definitely be a band to see, with their many strong hooks, memorable riffs, and catchy melodies, the show will be fun, energetic, and quite exciting. A band that is making their way here from Denmark for YOU to enjoy them, deserves your attention, and they will not disappoint.

3)Staind – In total honesty I was never much of a fan of these guys aside for a couple of their earlier songs, but you don’t have to be a huge fan to enjoy seeing them live. Staind’s studio recordings don’t even remotely do them justice, they are far heavier, and more musically capable playing live, and I can guarantee they will be one of the highlights from this year’s festival.

4)Alter Bridge – I shouldn’t even have to explain why everyone should check this band’s set out, Myles Kennedy is flat out one of the absolute finest vocalists in modern hard rock, whether it’s performing with Alter Bridge or with Slash. Alter Bridge have been at the top of hard rock music for most of the last several years, and from what I’ve heard, their live show is testament to that. Alter Bridge are the band that I have not seen that I’m most looking forward too, I heavily recommend everyone to check them out.

5)Monster Truck – Just because these guys are one of the opening bands on a side stage, doesn’t mean they won’t be one of the most fun sets of the weekend. Monster Truck are a fairly newer band from Ontario, they put out their debut album “Furiosity” about a year ago, if you’re a fan of bluesy, gritty in your face rock n’ roll, then you absolutely need to watch this band’s set.
