We are bringing emo back with our own modern twist of down-tuned breakdowns and cinematic elements.
We are rarely impressed with modern “emo” and post-hardcore bands. Let’s face it, there are a lot of times where the genre feels tired or even worse, like a parody of itself. Enter DC based group Watersdeep and their new single “What’s Behind These Walls Is Something You Will Never Understand” – a song that feels as timely in 2021 as it would have in 2005. The song is lengthy, clocking in at 4:25, but uses every second to build a veritable mosaic of everything there is to love about this kind of music. You’ll hear influences that range from My Chemical Romance to Funeral For A Friend to Eighteen Visions and From First To Last, alongside some more punk flavored parts ala Aiden, early Senses Fail etc. The group captures all the intensity of the greats without feeling like an homage, this is a young band that stands on their own while still carrying the torch.
