There’s much to be excited about in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania right now. The Phillies are almost at the end of a rebuild, and off to a 10-7 start. The Eagles? Yeah, they just won a Super Bowl. The 76ers are trusting The Process as their young stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid blossom into the NBA’s best, and while the Flyers are down 3-1 to the Penguins in the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs (yay!), they’re in the playoffs for just the 3rd time in 6 seasons.
Something else to be excited about is the talent coming out of Pennsylvania (Code Orange, Eternal Sleep), and specifically Philadelphia alt-rock band Grayscale – whose 2017 full-length Adornment (released on Fearless Records), was a well-received slab of rock that straddled the line between rock, alt-rock, emo, pop-punk, and even indie rock. While previous tracks like the ultra-catchy and anthemic “Midwest” caught our attention early on, it’s the standout song “Atlantic” (one of many, actually) that made new fans and old ones take notice.
We recently discovered an even more awesome piano-led take on “Atlantic”, and it totally works. It’s so good, we recommend listening to both the original (first), and the piano cover after, for full effect. Proof that there is plenty of musical talent in any genre of music – if you know where to look.
