Underoath to Return For TOCS/DFGL Tour?

Of all the bands I’ve listened to in my life, I can only name a handful of them that have inspired and impacted me more than Underoath. Maybe it’s the fact that I grew up in the same city they did, watching them grow into a metalcore juggernaut as I grew up too, and seeing them inspired a generation of people to start their own bands – all because of the trail Underoath blazed.

However, all things come to an end, and Underoath played what they said was their final show in early 2013. Spencer has kept busy with Sleepwave, Aaron has done more solo work and toured with Paramore – one would think a reunion would never happen, right?

That might be changing, regardless of how I or others feel about it (I’m excited personally, but I was okay with the finality of Underoath being laid to rest). Our friends at Kill The Music have reported that the band will be playing both They’re Only Chasing Safety and Define The Great Line each night on tour. While routing isn’t yet known, it’s certainly probable the reunion is happening. Spencer even hinted at a reunion in a recent interview with SF Weekly, which you can find an excerpt from after the jump. You can also listen to the full albums below, if you want to revisit them or listen to them for the first time.

With the reunion sentiment still pinned to this tour, it is too tempting not to ask about the idea of Underøath getting back together down the road. Is that in the cards?

Maybe. We’ll see. Next year is the 10-year anniversary of Define The Great Line. Me and Aaron [Gillespie – currently playing drums for Paramore] coordinated our tours with our managers so Paramore is off while Sleepwave is off, just in case. If I can make it work, I’ll make it work … If they do it, they’ll probably get fired from their full-time jobs and they have kids to feed. So at this point, it’s a big fat baby.
