Track Review: Pieces – Sullivan

sullivan_2014

It’s been a little over a month since we’ve gotten a taste of Sullivan’s upcoming album, but today they released the second track from Heavy Is The Head, “Pieces”, following the single “What’s Good For The King” that dropped at the end of October.

The best thing about Heavy Is The Head is that it’s Sullivan’s first album following a seven year hiatus. The album itself is out December 9, and from what I’ve heard so far, it’s already captured my attention.

The first track they released, “What’s Good For The King”, marked somewhat of a new direction for the band, with eerie vocals and instrumentation. “Pieces” follows a similar vibe in the way it starts off slow and stripped down and transforms into the kind of emo pop punk that Sullivan proved they were good at back in the early 2000’s. Lead vocalist Brooks Paschal uses his range well on the track, blending well instrumentally. Because it’s similar to “What’s Good For The King” while still sounding unique, I’m expecting the album to be cohesive but layered, following the dark theme set forth by these two tracks. Overall, “Pieces” has done its job of keeping this album a definite point of interest, with next week’s release date something to look forward to.

You can stream “Pieces” on Myspace, “What’s Good For The King” on Alternative Press, and pre-order Heavy Is The Head from Spartan Records.
