On October 12th, 2010, Motionless In White got their start with their debut full-length, Creatures. The album acts as a sort of ‘bridge’ album between the commercial success of early to mid-2000’s metalcore (when bands like Eighteen Visions, Bleeding Through, and Atreyu were gaining commercial acceptance) and modern metalcore, to a point. That’s most signified in the band’s use of electronics to create a dark atmosphere, but also with having It Dies Today vocalist Nick Brooks (who were a big influence on MIW’s development) on standout track “Abigail”.
Creatures is also intriguing because of the serious maturation in Chris Motionless’s vocal abilities. A huge improvement from his work on the band’s first set of EPs, you can really tell the Andrew Wade-produced record showed the young metalcore band really coming into their own. while the album only debuted at #175 on the Billboard 200, Creatures helped to springboard the band that much closer to the popular band they are now. Heralded as what’s usually considered the band’s best album, the band also performed it at a special livestream during COVID. Good times.
