This Day In Music History: November 16th, 1999 – Korn lands their first #1 debut with ‘Issues’

Released on November 16th, 1999, Korn experienced even more success with their 4th full-length, Issues. Their 1998 album Follow The Leader catapulted the nu-metal pioneers into the mainstream, selling millions of copies in the process, and with the release of 1999’s Issues, their hit song “Falling Away From Me” managed to reach the top of MTV’s Total Request Live multiple times as well.

Of course, the record wasn’t just driven by a couple hits and some filler. Sure, “Make Me Bad” and “Falling Away From Me” helped buoy Issues and helped it debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 (preventing Dr. Dre’s 2001 and Celine Dion from reaching the top spot), but credit must be given to Jonathan Davis and company for expanding their sonic palettes as well. No doubt fueled by the band’s set a few months earlier at Woodstock 1999, it can be argued that Issues was one of nu-metal’s biggest commercial successes – and among its better albums, too.
