This Day In Music History: June 28th, 2005 – Darkest Hour delivers quality melodic death metal(core) with ‘Undoing Ruin’

Since the beginning of the new millennium, there are several metal bands who can lay claim to having a very, very good discography. While it’s incredibly rare to find a band in any genre that doesn’t have a misstep or two, the fact is that any band who can string together multiple influential and good albums is worth paying attention to.

There are, of course, few that do it quite like Darkest Hour. Having assembled one of the most interesting discographies of the last 25 years for any metal band, there are certainly plenty of albums from Darkest Hour that are worth listening to. Undoing Ruin, the band’s fourth full-length album released in 2005, is among the band’s best.

A potent combination of metalcore and melodic death metal, the band’s album on Victory Records was their true breakout moment, as it was their first album to hit the billboard charts. In particular, it showcased an increased songwriting ability as well as their expert musicianship. Darkest Hour was able to focus some of their most impressive songs over a 38 minute long album. Particularly, it’s songs like “Convalescence”, “With A Thousand Words To Say But One”, and the underrated “Sound The Surrender” that catapulted Darkest Hour to a wider audience.
