This Day In Music History: August 6th, 2013 – Asking Alexandria breaks downs the walls on ‘From Death To Destiny’

There’s many examples of a band clearly going above and beyond to diversify themselves from a musical perspective. Evolving and even drastically changing their musical style, Asking Alexandria’s 2013 full-length From Death To Destiny is one of many records from the 2010s era of metalcore/post-hardcore to showcase clear evolution in their sound.

Released on August 6th, 2013,From Death To Destiny was the end result – the crest of a wave of hype that surrounded the band on their third full-length album. Led by some of their biggest singles like “Run Free”, “The Death Of Me”, and “Killing You”, much of the album has to do with vocalist Danny Worsnop’s overcoming of addiction at the time. Musically, it marks a notable transition away from the electronic-influenced metalcore sound where they started. Pushing for a more arena rock // hard rock-influenced sound, more than a few traces of their past are still evident as well.

In particular, “The Death Of Me” and “Don’t Pray For Me” wouldn’t sound out of place on their previous record, while huge ballad “Moving On” puts their love of glam metal and ’80s rock to the forefront. Leaving behind basically all of their electronic influences, From Death To Destiny ended up debuting + peaking at #5 on the Billboard 200 – still their biggest album debut to date.
