The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” is now one of the top 5 most-streamed songs in Spotify’s history

Not that he really needed it to happen, but The Weeknd’s Super Bowl halftime show just 8 days ago has helped the megastar’s entire catalogue see a surge in popularity.

No song from The Weeknd, of course, is bigger than “Blinding Lights”. The song, released at the tail end of 2019, has continued to dominate the charts over a year after its initial release. Part of the success of his After Hours album (which experienced a major surge as well), The Weeknd has now reached a major Spotify streaming milestone.

Now, as revealed by ChartData, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” – arguably the biggest song of the last 12 months – has become one of the 5 highest-streamed songs in Spotify’s history. Only 4 songs are ahead of it as it closes in on 2 billion streams, including “Rockstar” and “Shape Of You” (the Ed Sheeran megahit, which is still #1). Impressive company.
