Just three years after the release of Starboy in 2016, Canadian R&B-pop artist The Weeknd (also known as Abel Tesfaye) is back with a new single titled “Heartless”, giving a glimpse into the long-awaited Chapter 6 project. The last time we heard new music from Tesfaye was the surprise drop of the 6-song 2018 EP, My Dear Melancholy, with leading track “Call Out My Name” being released in May 2018 in acappella.
“Heartless” brings the toxic drugs and sex lines that he’s well-known for, while hitting hearts in bridge, giving fans a taste of seduction mixed with heartache. This can be seen in the lyrics:
“I lost my heart and my mind
I try to always do right
I thought I lost you this time
You just came back in my life
You never gave up on me (Why don’t you?)
I never know what you see (I want you)
I don’t do well when I’m low (Oh yeah)
You hit me clear in my heart”
Rumors started circulating the internet about possible new music on November 25th, when a Mercedes-Benz commercial promoting their new EQC electric car was released featuring the artist teasing the upcoming song “Blinding Lights”, with November 29th announced as the date for the full “film”. This was just days after the Weeknd came back from a five month social media hiatus on Instagram.
