Pretty much every musician loves to do things that aren’t music-related. For some, they’re avid sports fans. For others, they’re investors. And for even more, they’re big fans of video games. K.I. of Oxymorrons certainly falls in the latter category.
Considering the alternative hip-hop act is gaining a lot more deserved traction lately (opening up for bands like Neck Deep, major festival slots, and more) with their ability to cross genres effectively, it’s no surprise many are just now finding out how fantastic this band is. With influences all over the place (N.E.R.D., Queen, Kid Cudi, and much more), the band’s sound is easily transferable to all kinds of audiences. We’ve also got KI here to talk about some of the video games that have shaped his life over the years, which gives you some insight into his persona. As much as a few hundred characters can do, anyway.
Yerrr!! What’s up it’s your boy K.I. of Oxymorrons and I’m here to tell you about the video games that shaped and changed my life. It all started with Final Fantasy 4, well in the US it was called Final Fantasy 2 but that’s a different story. Seeing the intro with the planes flying above the land was like a big metaphor to me. Instantly I knew my imagination is bigger then the world and I could bring anything to light if I explored it. Final Fantasy 2 and Chrono Trigger did it for me. Ever since then I played every Final Fantasy 1-15, we definitely need a remake to Chrono Trigger.
I was in the 6th or 7th grade when I got my hands on The Sims. A classmate of mine name Donovan let me borrow it (which he never got back, sorry Donovan) and it truly changed everything for me. The Sims feed my creative hunger by allowing me to create my own character, family, and even a home. With every expansion pack it got even better. The Sims actually gave me the confidence to be a go getter. I thought if I could talk to my dream girl in the Sims I could definitely do it in real life. So on the weekends I would play form 6am-12am lol. Oh! We have to talk about the Sims 1 soundtrack… one the best chill soundtracks I’ve ever heard in my life. 10 out of 10 they need to do the music like this again.
For the last game I’m stuck between the Persona series or Mass Effect, I’ll just go with Mass Effect. When it comes to Mass Effect I was super late to playing this series. Being late to it allowed me to play all three games after another. I guess I fell in love with this game because it was like the Sims and Final Fantasy smashed together lol. The idea of you making decisions that would affect your game to the next was really groundbreaking to me. Fable was one of my first decision-based games that I’ve ever played but they didn’t do it like Mass Effect. I recently purchased the new updated of all three games for the PS4 and I’m curious to see what decision will I make this time around.
