First emerging onto the progressive metal/deathcore scene with 2010’s Exoplanet, The Contortionist have gone in a decidedly less heavy direction in recent years. It’s not like the band’s enthralling musicianship has gone the way of the buffalo, though.
In fact, if you listen to Language and their most recent full-length, 2017’s Clairvoyant, you’ll likely be impressed by the band’s evolution. A more accessible, streamlined sound has helped them garner far more commercial success and attention, and while we did get a few new songs in the form of Our Bones in 2019, there’s been no new music from The Contortionist since. That appears to be changing, though.
While there’s no word from the band about new music or a new album coming, we do have this report that reportedly has the band in the studio right now, recording a new album with engineer John Douglass. It should be noted that there is no confirmation from the band about this news, but the source is trustworthy – so there’s that. Either way, it probably won’t be long now.
