A sober lifestyle, and breaking free of addictions of any sort, are all hard to maintain. That goes extra for anyone who has a career that is in the public eye, especially one that involves a great deal of creative energy. It’s always an admirable thing to see someone doing it for themself, their friends, family, and even kids, in the case of The Amity Affliction’s Joel Birch.
Birch is celebrating 7 years of sobriety from alcohol, not a small thing at all. Having survived a near-death experience from drinking at Warped Tour a a decade prior, he quit drinking after doctors told him such. Props to Birch and anyone who is willing to admit public struggles with any kind of addiction.
Seven years sober today. Zero drinks the entire time, no days off. My youngest son will never see me drunk.
