Some things are far more important than music. The Amity Affliction may have released a new record a couple weeks ago on Pure Noise Records, but Amity vocalist Joel Birch is celebrating something far more important – four years of sobriety.
In a 2016 interview with Metal Hammer, Birch detailed his battles with drinking, including a 2013 incident at Warped Tour where Birch was hospitalized:
“I nearly died from alcohol withdrawal, which I didn’t really tell anybody,” Joel admits today from the comfort of a sofa in the Hammer office. “We just said I had an ‘incident’ and I stopped drinking because the doctor said I nearly died and this is why.”
Shout out to Joel for keeping on the path to sobriety. If you or a loved one are battling addiction, please contact SAMHSA.
FOUR FUCKING YEARS SOBER.
