The Breathing Process is one of those bands that has been around for over 10 years, since 2008 to be exact. The group was one of the first bands to combine symphonic, melody focus black metal elements into deathcore. The Breathing Process released their debut album ‘In Wake: Divinity‘ around the same time Abigail Williams and Winds of Plague made their debuts, and thus began a new era of metal. As we all know today, symphonic metal, and metal influenced from black metal has taken over the metal realm with bands like Lorna Shore and Shadow of Intent. The Breathing Process returned in 2010 to bring us their sophomore album ‘Odyssey (un)Dead‘, and the band continued to innovate the metal genre. The genre defining group was showcasing some seriously innovative and creative music for the time back then. Eight years would pass before The Breathing Process gave us new music, and this came with their third album ‘Samsara’ which I become very fond of when it released, jamming it on repeat. It was nice to see The Breathing Process return, and it seemed like they didn’t miss a single beat while they were on their studio hiatus.
Now, in 2022 the group is highly active. They have done two recent tours with Worm Shepard, and their founding member, Jordan Milner, is filling in for Distant on The Chaos and Carnage tour with Carnifex! In October of 2021 The Breathing Process returned with a very strong album. The band proudly presented their fourth full length album ‘Labyrinthian’, a heart pounding, high octane metal fueled ride. The album was released through Unique Leader Records, and it goes to show how far these guys have came. The Breathing Process have returned to claim their crowns of modern blackened deathcore, and the result is impressive. ‘Labyrinthian’ takes the listener on a 10 track ride through some of the most innovative blackened deathcore you can find today. The Breathing Process continue to flex their creative muscles with captivating songwriting, dragon-like vocals, and compelling atmospheres to help build up the songs. The album was mixed and mastered by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Rivers of Nihil), and he ties the album together perfectly. Tracks like ‘Shadow Self’, ‘Wilt’, and ‘A Savage Plea’ truly showcase what these guys are capable of. We’re excited to see them still kicking it with innovative music, and looking forward to the future of the band!
