Silent Planet show even more songwriting ambition on evocative new single, “Panopticon”

Ambition is a trait that metalcore band Silent Planet exhibits quite well. After all, how many metalcore bands – and artists in general – are well-versed in the art of conversation about LGBT youth and even discussions about the scars that endless war can bring? Not many, to be sure.

Three full-length albums into their career, Silent Planet have proven themselves capable of making thought-provoking songs – but with a pivotal fourth record in their sights, the band’s new track “Panopticon” is a harbinger of things to come. While treading familiar metalcore waters, it’s the song’s futuristic sound (a heavier emphasis on electronics) and lyrics (about an uncertain future) that really shows what Silent Planet are capable of. It’s one of the best tracks the band has written to date, and oddly enough the track’s electronic flourishes might well remind you of Nine Inch Nails. High praise, but it’s warranted.
