We recently had the chance to head out to Motion City Soundtrack’s 10 year anniversary tour for their seminal record, Commit This To Memory.  They brought out some great support and provided Nashville with quite the evening.  Read all about it after the jump!

CTTM Tour

Up until the last few weeks I never really gave Sorority Noise the attention they deserve.  From the moment I heard their new album, Joy, Departed, I was instantly hooked.  Their performance backed up just how good of a band they are.  The set was both reckless and beautiful.  There was never a dull moment throughout the set and they had the crowd captivated the entire time.  The set involved a healthy dose of new tracks and they ended “Mediocre At Best” with an outro of “Good Things” by The Menzingers which was absolutely fantastic.  Sorority Noise easily put on one of the best performance I have seen this year and will not make the mistake of missing them again.

While they have been a part of this scene for a very long time, The Spill Canvas are a band that really never clicked with me.  It has nothing to do with them, more of an era that was full of so many great bands that it was easy to get lost in the shuffle.  While I only recognized “Polygraph, Right Now”, the band played a highly entertaining set that made me realize I should probably go back and see what I was missing out on for the last ten years.

I owe a lot of things to Motion City Soundtrack.  They were the first band to really give me a shot at this whole music journalism thing back in 2005 before I even had my own website up and running.  I took a shot in the the dark asking for an interview and they were more than happy to oblige.  They were on the road supporting Commit This To Memory, which made seeing the 10 year anniversary tour for really bittersweet for me.  The band came out and immediately went into “Attractive Today” and the crowd went nuts.  Of course the entire venue sang along to every word during the set, but they really went off for “Everything Is Alright”.  It’d been a few years since I had the opportunity to catch Motion City, so it was great catching some of my favorite tracks of theirs like “When You’re Around” and “LG FUAD”.  The band made quick work of the album with only a few pauses between songs for Justin Pierre to explain a songs meaning or to exchange some witty banter with the crowd.  After getting through the album they came out for an encore that lasted the length of a second set, playing songs from throughout their entire discography and then closing out the night with their two biggest tracks from I Am The Movie, “The Future Freaks Me Out” and “My Favorite Accident”.  The evening couldn’t have ended in a more perfect fashion.
