Corrupt Leaders is a sludgy, crusty punk assault hailing from Windsor, Canada. Their self-titled debut EP is a beautifully harsh effort that would make crust punk’s innovators proud.

Corrupt Leaders is a seven-minute romp through some of the heaviest punk rock in recent memory. The most noticeable aspect of the EP is the sheer heaviness; Corrupt Leaders have crafted a barrage of thundering guitars, crashing drums, slamming bass, and violent vocals. At times, Corrupt Leaders moves at a breakneck pace, pounding out angry riffs and hard-to-keep-track-of drum escapades, and at other times the music is taken as slow and heavy as possible, creating breakdowns and interludes made to send chills down the spines of even the crustiest punks.

The production on Corrupt Leaders is brutal. Every facet of the EP is deliciously dirty. Mattu’s guitar riffs are slow, crunchy, and pack a heavy punch, but that punch pales in comparison to the basslines; Bassist Jay brings a new level of heavy to the EP. The bass can audibly be heard at all times, intertwining with Matt’s ferocious drumming. Still, the highlight of Corrupt Leaders is lead vocalist Rayny. Each scream feels as if it is being torn from a man possessed, as if you can hear the man’s vocal chords being shredded to bits with each syllable that passes through his lungs. These are the kind of vocals that put even the most seasoned black metal vocalist to shame.

Corrupt Leaders has unleashed the very essence of crust punk on their self-titled debut. The EP is a “no filler, all killer” release, one that deserves to go down in the ages as a classic.
