Periphery blur the lines between musicality and shitposting with the title to their new album, ‘Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre’

For some people (including us, on occasion), shitposting is a way of life. Seriously, if you’ve ever been to the Djent Shitposting group on Facebook, it might confuse you at first. Do people enjoy bands like Meshuggah, Periphery, and Tesseract? Are they making fun of them? The truth is somewhere in between – many people see that poking fun at your favorite bands is a positive thing, that maybe not all of it needs to be taken seriously.

Clearly, Periphery are one of those bands that seem to understand as well. Why else would they seriously name their new album Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre? This is, of course, the same band that named their previous album Periphery IV: Hail Stan (which turned out to be some of their most dynamic work to date), so there’s clearly a history here. Either way, it’s pretty hilarious, and the first two singles from the new record drop Thursday the 12th. And they’ve obviously proclaimed that djent is not a genre, so now there’s that.
