For Ovtlier, success has been a bit of a slow burning process. Having released a string of singles since their 2017 debut EP dropped, the drip-feed strategy has worked out for them – keeping their high-octane brand of modern heavy rock in the limelight. They’ve started to land some notable opening and supporting tour slots as well, and they were actually supposed to open for Motionless In White + Knocked Loose’s tour in 2020 before the COVID-19 thing ruined everyone’s plans.
The band’s new single, “Heartless”, is a great encapsulation of their determination to succeed. With a rapidly growing fanbase, the band’s new single is poised to take them to new heights, and no doubt will receive some major radio play just like their recent singles have. At its core, the song is about difficult and toxic relationships that bring you down and wear down your resolve. Give it a spin below.
About the new song, Ovtlier had this to say:
“They say, “hurt people hurt people”. “Heartless” is about “toxic” relationships and the effects it can have on one, not just in the present but will leech on you and wreak havoc in the future. You can become so numb in the process of it all by taking the abuse, whether it be physical, mental or emotional you become that very thing you hate. After my experience of this, I shut down emotionally, even more than my childhood trauma. I would be transparent out the gate and state how deadened I’ve become and that I did not want a relationship or anything to build upon. I refused to let anyone in. I could not welcome love. It is a virus that transfers easily.”
