NJPW Strong Independence Day Night 1 (07.04.2023) (Wrestling Review)

NJPW

Strong – Independence Day Night 1

Tokyo, Japan

July 4th, 2023

Pre-Show Six Man Tag Team Match
Dragon Libre, Kengo & Takahiro Katori vs. Oskar Leube, Ryusuke Taguchi & YOH

Once the silliness ended and it was a legit match this was fine.

2 / 5

Singles Match
Bad Dude Tito vs. The DKC

A solid opening match that was quicker and delivered. I’ll praise Bad Dude Tito as always.

3 / 5

Six Man Tag Team Match
Alex Zayne, Lance Archer & Ryohei Oiwa vs. Team Filthy (Jorel Nelson, JR Kratos & Royce Isaacs)

This was a fun match with some good spots and moments. Would love to know how Kratos got opened up and pouring blood so much though.

3 / 5

Singles Match
Tom Lawlor vs. Kosei Fujita

A solid match. Some hard hits but you knew the winner from the start.

3 / 5

Tag Team Match
Eddie Kingston & Rocky Romero vs. BULLET CLUB (Gedo & KENTA)

A lot of good action here and proof that even in Japan, Eddie Kingston is severely over.

3.5 / 5

Tag Team Match
Momo Kohgo & Willow Nightingale vs. Mafia Bella (Giulia & Thekla)

Willow is poised to be a big star in Japan. This was an enjoyable match with some good action.

3 / 5

NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Title Match
Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) (c) vs. BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Alex Coughlin & Gabe Kidd)

Coughlin rules. This had some great action to it and I liked the title change without cheating.

3.5 / 5

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Title Match
Catch 22 (Francesco Akira & TJP) (c) vs. BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney)

I liked a lot of the action here but something just didn’t click right. It had its moments though and Clark Connors is still someone I love to see in NJPW.

3.25 / 5

Doomsday No Disqualification Tag Team Match
Homicide & Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado & Jun Kasai

Man this had so much more potential. NJPW doesn’t do deathmatches and have never had Kasai in so this was big. This wasn’t really a deathmatch and just more of a hardcore match. It had its moments but never was great really and dragged some.

2.5 / 5
