The new Trivium song “The Sin And The Sentence” is a throwback to the band’s “Shogun” days

Since their inception almost 2 decades ago, Florida metal band Trivium have long been one of the more polarizing bands around. Longtime fans still swear by 2005’s Ascendancy and 2008’s Shogun being far and away the band’s best work, and while that’s a valid statement, even their more commercial albums have been pretty good – especially 2015’s Silence In The Snow. Trivium is one of the few bands to survive (and even thrive) the fallout of the metalcore scene of the late 2000’s – their songwriting skills are still quite good.

That being said, fans have been long wondering what the new material would sound like. And we now have the first volley in the form of “The Sin And The Sentence”. First off, it’s a great single. Second, it’s like a more accessible version of what you’d find on 2008’s Shogun. Great singing, Matt Heafy is screaming again, and the guitar work is top notch. We’ll leave you to jam the new song.
