Megadeth brings their Destroy All Enemies tour to Tinley Park for an evening of metal

Heavy metal titans Megadeth brought their Destroy All Enemies tour to Tinley Park on Tuesday, bringing along some friends for one of the strongest rock shows of the summer.

All That Remains opened the show with a solid set that teased what’s to come with new single “Divine” (released this past May), getting the crowd hyped for Peoria quintet Mudvayne, who reunited in 2022 to the delight of nu-metal fans young and old. Taking the stage with their signature makeup, the band absolutely crushed their hour-long set and looked savage doing it.

Vocalist Chad Grey’s makeup was the stuff of nightmares with a bullet hole in his forehead and genuinely unsettling zombie eyes, while guitarist Greg Tribett appeared to be undergoing some sort of autopsy with an exposed metal brain and alien eyes. “Happy,” “Dig,” and “Not Falling” were obvious highlights, and the band’s energy was limitless from start to finish.

Megadeth have nothing left to prove to metal fans, and yet vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine continues to drive his current iteration of the band to new heights in support of 2022’s The Sick, The Dying, and The Dead. The addition of guitarist Teemu Mantysaari and the return of bassist James LoMenzo has really revitalized the band, most obviously in terms of the setlist, which saw a number of deep cuts like “Washington is Next,” “Liar,” “Dread and the Fugitive Mind,” and even the rarely played “Mechanix,” which remains a breakneck anthem.

Mustaine’s chops remain razor-sharp, and he seemed at ease with the crowd throughout the night as the ever-present Vic Rattlehead—displayed on a massive backdrop as the Lincoln Memorial— gazed down with approval.
