Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the #1 song in the USA right now

If there’s one thing that’s completely inescapable for retail workers during the holidays, it’s hearing the same 30 or so Christmas songs on an endless loop. There can’t be many things more inane than hearing “Holly Jolly Christmas” or whatever else comes on over the intercom while stocking shelves. At least that’s the way we perceive retail to be.

There’s three things you can be assured of in life, though. Death, taxes, and hearing Mariah Carey’s Christmas album the first day after Thanksgiving. Oddly enough, her Merry Christmas album “only” sold 45,000 copies in its first week of release in 1994, but eventually sold 15 million copies (and counting) worldwide. It’s an album so popular, Mariah still earns some big-time royalties from the record, and its biggest hit is still definitely “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Remember when we mentioned “inescapable”? Well, it still is.

The song is once again the #1 song in the USA, according to the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, it’s one of 4 Christmas songs in the top 10 right now, and not surprisingly, Grammy snub The Weeknd is STILL there a year later with “Blinding Lights”. Iconic, really.
