When he’s not feuding with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor or drawing the ire of metalheads everywhere, Machine Gun Kelly is admittedly doing pretty well for himself. Last year’s Tickets To My Downfall is now his first Platinum record, and he’s generally been successful since abruptly switching genres from hip-hop to pop-punk.
Having already teased something coming on New Year’s Day 2022 (which is only a couple months away, yikes), it appears MGK has revealed more about what the upcoming studio album might sound like. And it might be a total 180 turn into something “deeper”.
The musician contended, in a new interview, what the album might sound like stylistically, saying…
“It feels more guitar-heavy for sure, lyrically it definitely goes deeper — but I never like to do anything the same,” Kelly explained. “Every album is a juxtaposition of the last album. So I went and studied Tickets, and I heard the bright sound that I had, and for this album I just turned the lights off.”
He added, “I’m not scared anymore, there’s nothing holding me back from being my true self — and my true self can’t be silenced, can’t be restrained. It’s a force, it’s like a hurricane. Can’t stop that, it just goes until it feels like stopping, and I don’t feel like stopping anytime soon.”
If he does indeed turn toward a more guitar-heavy sound, it’ll be interesting to hear what people (and Corey Taylor) think about it.
