Lord Huron brings a beautiful evening of music to Salt Lake City (Show Review)

Wow, if there is ever a show you want to attend it’s definitely a show put on by Lord Huron. This particular show took place outside in a beautiful amphitheater surrounded by tall blue mountains and the weather was absolutely perfect for an early spring night. There truly couldn’t have been a better setup for this indie rock band with some folk pulls.

Erin Rae was up first, her band is from Nashville Tennesse, and is the perfect fit for the sound of this tour. She has a very melodic and strong voice, in fact, the whole time that she was singing I couldn’t help but think of her as the female band version of Lord Huron. All of her songs are lyrically complex and relatable to listeners everywhere. Her lead guitarist really showed his skill in multiple songs but my favorites had to be “California belongs to you” and “Enemy”, both songs stood out to me for many reasons, their resonating lyrics and skillful guitar solos were definitely crowd-pleasers, and the crowd seemed to really appreciate Erin and I think she and her band have a bright future ahead.

My favorite part of covering bigger shows in Utah is hearing how these bands once played at the smaller venues around the state. Lord Huron played a sold-out show at the Sandy Amphitheater which has a capacity of 2,700. He mentioned shortly after coming out on stage that he used to play at a popular venue in Salt Lake City called Kilby Court with a capacity of 200. I love seeing how much growth these amazing artists have achieved in a short amount of time.

This show was great for many reasons, first, the stage setup was perfect for the venue and the overall sound of the album. They set up the stage with some risers to ensure every band member was seen well, and to hide the risers they added some effects to make it look as though they were in the desert. Ben Schneider the lead singer, sang beautifully and really captured the crowd from the first note. When he wasn’t dazzling the crowd with his amazing vocals and guitar playing, he danced majestically around the stage with some fun cowboy-styled moves.

Lord Huron as a whole group has a fabulous stage presence and with minimal speaking did a great job of keeping the crowd engaged throughout the show. If you ever have the opportunity to see them live I would definitely jump on it. They sound great when listening through headphones but they honestly sound even more amazing live. They are ones you don’t want to miss!
